Diamonds make great gifts, but this one might take the cake. In November 2013, a diamond cutter in New York had the winning bid for the 59.60-carat pink diamond “Pink Dream”. Four bidders participated before the winner, Isaac Wolf, won the stone with an $83 million bid.

The pink diamond is oval-cut and is the largest internally flawless fancy vivid pink diamond ever graded by the Gemological Institute of America. This sets a record for any gemstone ever sold at auction. Sotheby’s had estimated the stone might raise more than $60 million.

Pink diamonds have set the highest auction prices for any gemstone sold at auction. In April 2013, the 34.65-carat ‘‘Princie” fancy intense pink raised $39.3 million at Christie’s in New York.

The desirability of pink as a gem color has increased since rose-hued diamonds were first discovered in India centuries ago.

At Harris Jewelers, we love colored diamonds and can show you beautiful diamond options to create in your chosen setting. While we love this beautiful pink diamond, frankly, we don’t see diamonds in the $60-$80 million dollar range!
